With over a decade of dedicated work, the ensemble has earned an international reputation
ALTRO CORO was founded in September 2010 by outstanding teachers and students from the Choral Conducting Department of the Gnesin Academy of Music. Since its inception, it has adhered to the artistic philosophy of ‘professional dedication and innovative preservation’.
Over the past decade, the choir has not only honed its mastery of the classical repertoire but has also taken on the mission of promoting lesser-known Russian vocal works, focusing on unearthing little-known masterpieces for choir and vocal ensemble. It has successfully performed both classic and lesser-known works by dozens of world-class composers, including Schoenberg, Gubaidulina, Schnittke and Tavinare, with several pieces receiving their stage premieres, thereby breathing new life into classical vocal music.
Thanks to its solid vocal technique, diverse repertoire and exceptional stage presence, the choir has been a regular feature on the international arts scene:
✅ ‘Sviatoslav Richter’s December Nights’ International Music Festival
✅ ‘Singing World’ International Choral Arts Festival
✅ Ural Music Nights, Sochi International Winter Arts Festival
✅ The national-level international programme ‘Russian Seasons’
✅ The All-Russian Shostakovich Festival and Christmas Choral Concerts
Having performed on stages across numerous countries, the choir breaks down language barriers with its pure harmonies, allowing the world to hear the depth, tenderness and grandeur of Russian choral music.
Pure harmonies meet the height of romance
Russian choral music possesses a unique artistic character—combining the solemn elegance of classical vocal music with the vitality and depth of modern compositions. Multiple vocal parts intertwine and entwine, ranging from deep and mellow to clear and ethereal, creating distinct layers with a soothing, lingering resonance.
On this occasion, ALTRO CORO will bring their stage prowess—honed over more than a decade—to Shanghai, interpreting the timeless charm of Russian music through the purest form of vocal artistry. Free from the clutter of elaborate arrangements, the performance features only the finest harmonies, immersing us in the romance and depth of Russian music whilst allowing us to experience the vocal power born of the collision between the classical and the modern.
An artistic journey spanning thousands of miles; an authentic Russian choral feast.
This autumn, leave the hustle and bustle behind and immerse yourself in the layered, celestial harmonies. Unlock the boundless charm of choral artistry at its finest, and join us for this soul-soothing musical rendezvous.
